Teacup Yorkies: Playful Friends
1 comment so farAlthough the Teacup Yorkie isn’t considered to be a breed of its own, this hasn’t stopped them from capturing the hearts of thousands of American dog lovers. Small, energetic and personable, the Teacup Yorkie is one of the most sought after of all the Yorkshire Terrier types.
Teacup Yorkies are bright, energetic and good-natured dogs, although they aren’t really considered to be a breed of their own. Instead, they are simply Yorkshire terriers that have been bred to be exceptionally small in size. What they lack in stature, however, they more than make up for in spunk and personality. Teacup Yorkies are well known for being full of energy, courage and loyalty. They get along well with other animals, but their boldness makes them likely to assert themselves as the leader of the pack when placed in a home with several dogs. They are brave, and will not back down from a fight, even with a larger dog. This makes them unsuited for homes with small children, as problems can ensue.
While they generally get along well with other dogs, they are also quick to try to establish leadership as the alpha dog. In keeping with this spunky personality, Teacup Yorkies aren’t afraid to challenge larger dogs, and this can get them into trouble. It’s also another reason they are not recommended for families with small children.
Independent and loyal, Teacup Yorkies share the same personality as all Yorkshire Terrier types. While they can often be found snoozing in a warm lap, they also like to sleep in privacy, often finding a corner or isolated place in which to doze off. They can be fiercely protective of their families, and are known to be rather territorial, at times defending their owners from a much larger opponent. Teacup Yorkies are also extremely alert and will bark at the slightest possibility of an intruder.
Charming and intelligent, the Teacup Yorkie is extremely quick to pick up new commands and learn new tricks from their owner. Their small size makes them ideal for apartment living, but their quick minds means that they can bored quickly, so it is necessary to provide them with several toys and distractions to keep them occupied. Because of these traits, Teacup Yorkies do exceptionally well in competitive sports, as they have no problems understanding and carrying out their handler’s commands.
Whether you live a Hollywood mansion or a small New York apartment, Teacup Yorkies make wonderful pets. Bold, protective, loving and loyal, they provide outstanding companionship for any dog lover. Their small size makes it easy for them to fit in to any size household, and their good-natured disposition makes it easy for them to adjust to families with several animals already in residence.
Although they’re not recommended for homes with small children, they should get along fine with children who are older. They even make great traveling companions when it comes time to take a family vacation.
Like most small dogs, Teacup Yorkies can suffer from several illnesses, so it’s important to know what to look for when you’re selecting your pup. You’ll also find lists of reputable breeders who take great care of their animals, and who’ll help you in finding a healthy, happy puppy. ##
